China, the world’s largest coal producer and consumer, has unveiled a slew of targets to transform the country’s coal industry to an efficient and green operation, authorities said.
By 2020, 85% of coal mining and 62% of tunneling should be mechanized operations, said a document released by the National Energy Administration (NEA) on January 13.
It also targets a 75% utilization rate for coal gangue, as well as mine water utilization rates of 95%, 80% and 75% in mines located in water-shortage area, average water resource area and abundant water resource area respectively, said the NEA.
Reclamation rate for coal gangue and dirt storage areas should be over 90% by 2020, it said.
All large and medium-sized coal mines should have their own washing plant or share a central washing plant with nearby mines, 80% of the raw coal output should be washed, said NEA.
By 2020, the output of major coal production bases should account for 95% of the country’s total and coal’s share of primary energy would fall under 62%.
