China has witnessed a surge in power loads at local grids in northern and central China since late last month, as temperature continues to climb, industry sources reported.<br /> <br /> During the latter half of May, power grids in southern Hebei province had a peak loading of 23.83 GW, up more than 10% from the beginning of the month, the State Grid News reported on May 29.<br /> <br /> The Hebei branch of the State Grid Corp. has strengthened power management and emergency response capabilities, while limiting electricity used by high energy-consuming industries to ensure adequate supplies to residential and agricultural sectors, the report said.<br /> <br /> Peak load on the Beijing grid also increased 15.24% to 13.79 GW in the week of May 23 compared to the same period last year, according to the State Grid’s Beijing branch, which projects a peak load of 19.8 GW this summer, up 11.49% year on year.<br /> <br /> In Shandong, steadily rising temperature pushed the peak load to a record high of 44.9 GW on May 26.
