Meizhouwan to build large coal distribution center
Meizhouwan port, located in southeast China’s Fujian province, plans to build itself into a large-sized coal distribution center in order to explore potential market along the coast and in Taiwan, said the official Xinhua News Agency.

The State Development and Investment Corp. (SDIC) is constructing a 70,000-tonne and a 10,000-tonne coal unloading berths at Meizhouwan port, which is designed to have annual coal throughput of 80 million tonnes, Xinhua cited Dai Tianqi, the engineering manager of the project, as saying.

It is predicted that the port would ship 2 million tonnes of coal to Taiwan by 2020. Coastal provinces including Fujian, Jiangxi and Guangzhou provinces would also benefit from the coal distribution center.

Meanwhile, Meizhouwan port will build its Luoyu district into a specialized distribution dock for metal ores, which will greatly help to reduce the transport cost of Taiwan’s traders.

In the future, Meizhouwan will become a modern logistics center connecting both sides of the Taiwan Straits, said one official with the local Logistics Association.
