China to continue boosting railway construction in 2015

China will maintain the scale and intensity of railway construction in 2015 and more lines will be put into operation, said Lu Dongfu, director of the National Railway Administration (NRA) on January 9.<br /> <br /> Lu said several thousands of kilometers of track will come into operation in 2015.<br /> <br /> "Railway construction, particularly in China's central and western regions, is a strategic move in response to the economic 'new normal'," said Lu.<br /> <br /> Presently, China has more than 110,000 kilometers of railways and over 15,000 kilometers of them are high-speed, according to Lu.<br /> <br /> According to the 12th Five-Year Plan, China should complete 120,000 km of railway construction by the end of 2015, increasing 29,000 km or 31.87% from 2010.<br /> <br /> Since railway construction is in full swing all around the country, China’s total railway mileage will reach 140,000 km, said Wang Mengshu, one academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering.<br /> <br /> <p> The country has accomplished the task of 800 billion yuan investment in railway projects in 2014, said Yang Chuantang, director of Ministry of Transport. </p> <p style="text-align:center;"> <img src="/upfiles/news/image/20150113/20150113111813_3487.jpg" alt="" /> </p>
