China is expected to put the Shanxi central-south coal-dedicated railway into operation by the end of 2014, greatly easing rail coal transport pressure facing the world’s top consumer of the fossil fuel, sources reported.

The railway, which starts from Luliang City, west central part of Shanxi to Rizhao Port in East China’s Shandong with a total length of 1260km, has a designed annual transport capacity of 200 million tonnes.

Upon completion, it will help transport coal from central south coal bases in Shanxi and Hebi mining area in Henan and Yanzhou mining area in Shandong to eastern and southern China, reducing transport distance by 1500km compared to traditional transport routes from the Bohai Rim ports.
