What Is The Difference Between A Mud Pump And A Slurry Pump?

Date:25/06/2018   View: 665   Tags: Difference Mud Pump A Slurry Pump
First of all, the conveying medium is different. Mud pump is the earliest type of pump. It is generally made of cast iron and has low wear resistance. As an important part of drilling machinery, it can only be used to convey mud or slurry containing suspended particles. The slurry pump is mainly used in the mining industry. It is used to transport slag-containing slurry, and it can also be used to transport mud. As the slurry pump is more susceptible to slurry impact, abrasion, corrosion, etc. during the working process, the slurry are usually pumped with inner liners. Abrasive materials, such as high-chromium alloys, rubber and other highly wear-resistant materials, to form a wear-resistant slurry pump. This can effectively reduce the internal wear of the slurry pump, so most of the slurry pumps used in the market today are wear resistant slurry pumps.

Second, mud pumps need to be equipped with auxiliary equipment, and slurry pumps are not required. When mud pumps work, they often need to be used in conjunction with high-pressure clean water pumps. The high-pressure pumps deliver clear water that is greater than the mud pump pressure to the leak-proof packing and protect the packing. Otherwise, the seal part will easily wear out. The wear-resistant slurry pump can be used alone. Complete the transfer work without the need for other auxiliary equipment.

Finally, the working principle is different. Mud pump is the motor driving the piston through the linkage mechanism, which causes the change of the volume of the closed chamber in the mud pump, forming the change of the pressure difference between the pump and the outside of the pump, thus completing the water absorption and drainage process; while the wear resistant slurry pump is working, it is the motor. Drive the impeller to rotate, that is, the impeller works on the slurry to increase the kinetic energy of the slurry. At the same time, the slurry flows to the edge of the impeller due to inertia and is discharged from the discharge pipe at a very high speed.

In addition, because the two pumps have different application media, the applied fields will also be different. Slurry pumps are mainly used in the transportation of solids slurry in metallurgy, electric power, mining, coal and other industrial sectors. Mud pumps have long been used mainly in the drilling, pharmaceutical, brewing, papermaking and other industries to transport suspension slurry.
