State Grid accelerates work on two UHV power transmission lines

The State Grid Corp. of China (SGCC), the world's leading power utility company, is accelerating preparation work for two ultra-high voltage (UHV) power transmission lines so as to commence construction immediately after gaining approval from the government, sources reported.<br /> <br /> The company is expected to gain official approval on one UHV AC power transmission line, connecting northern Inner Mongolia and eastern Tianjin, which has passed environmental impact assessment of the Ministry of Environmental Protection on October 20, early next year.<br /> <br /> The company meanwhile is speeding up preliminary design for the second UHV AC line, which connects Yuheng, western Shaanxi with Weifang, eastern Shandong province.<br /> <br /> The two lines, with total length of 3,329km, crossing Shanxi, Shaanxi, Hebei and coastal developed regions, will play an important role in fight against air pollution, said the company.<br /> <br /> <p> China is expected to invest around 360 billion yuan ($58.8 billion) in UHV transmission lines in the next four years, as it seeks to boost supply of electricity generated in coal-rich areas to eastern energy-hungry provinces to power local economy.&nbsp; </p> <p style="text-align:center;"> <img src="/upfiles/news/image/20141031/20141031164755_8494.jpg" alt="" /> </p>
