Russian railway company executives said that the Russian government plans to invest 43 billion US dollars to improve its railway infrastructure in order to benefit from the growth of Sino-European cargo.
Russia can benefit greatly from freight exchanges between Europe and China, as many railroads in Beijing will cross the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), said Alexander Misharin, First Vice President of the Russian Railways, at the Sochi-2017 Investment Forum.
"Within the framework of the EAEU, we are likely to invest in a large infrastructure project worth 2.5 trillion rubles ($ 43 billion) in Russia over the next five years," Misharin said.
According to him, the investment is mainly used to rebuild and upgrade the main railway lines in Russia, such as the Bea railway, the Siberian railway and the railway connecting the Baltic and Black Sea.
"Although the current EAEU, we only occupy 15% of cargo turnover between Europe and Asia, but these are high-margin goods, the value of these goods in the EU 600 billion US dollars trade volume can account for 40%, or even To 50%, "Misharin said.

At the Sochi forum, Misharin also introduced the Russian railways plan to build a high-speed rail line connecting China, Russia and Kazakhstan with Berlin as a transportation hub.
He said the development of electricity providers led to changes in the structure of overseas goods, and distribution policy will have a significant impact on shoppers' buying decisions.
According to Misharin, the future of goods from China will be able to arrive in Europe within 3 days.
He added that on 28 February, the Russian railway company signed a memorandum of understanding with representatives of the Chinese government and China Railway Corporation, including the construction of a 10,000-kilometer high-speed railway line.
The railway line in China part, up to 4000 km, and has already started construction. The first part of the Russian part - including the Moscow - Kazan section, has not yet been opened.
Misharin said construction costs are as high as 10 trillion rubles ($ 172 billion).
At present, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan's joint transport logistics company (ULTC) from China to Europe, the container for 100,000 containers, and by 2020 will be as high as 1 million.
"Logistics competition is no longer a means of transport, but a customs policy," Misharin said. "Is the Sino-Russian, Sino-Kazakh customs regulatory authorities and Hamburg, Rotterdam customs supervision between the competition."
European companies are looking forward to the construction of transport routes between Europe and Asia.
"The railway line from China to Berlin is very important to Germany and the European Union," said German councilor Tobias Zech at the Sochi forum. "The EU and EAEU should strive to use technology to solve the difficult problems in railway construction."
